Here’s our monthly newsletter, with the main news from the last month, including what you can expect in the coming months.

Technology

OpenNebula 4.2 Flame is out, and we received loads of positive feedback about it. It is good to know that all the hard work means something.

But, of course, by all means Flame is not perfect! For this reason, the OpenNebula team is working full throttle towards the next release, OpenNebula 4.4. We can advance cool features like improved EC2 support, support for multiple system datastore, improved Open vSwitch integration, better xmlrpc concurrency, support for IP reservations and many other nice improvements. Check the development portal for the full set of features and bugs to be dealt with for OpenNebula 4.4.

In order to ease the installation of OpenNebula, we have created package repositories for CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian and openSUSE to make the installation and upgrade even easier. Latest contextualization packages for CentOS/RedHat, Ubuntu and Debian are also located in those repositories.

Community

The OpenNebula community haven’t taken summer holidays. The OpenNebula support mailing list was packed with questions about OpenNebula 4.2, as well as feature requests for the upcoming 4.4.

OpenNebula users groups are catching on, and they displayed very good health this last August. A new user group was created in Hungary, to bring together the Hungarian OpenNebula users and aiming develop a consistent, reliable professional community around OpenNebula. Their first meeting would be the next 3rd of October, check it out and join in if around!.

An OpenNebula group was also created on XING, the social software platform for professionals. If you a re a XING and OpenNebula user, you surely would want to hang out here. Moreover, it looks like the Denver OpenNebula user group is evolving.

We tend to blush when we read nice things about OpenNebula. This article made a very good job on that 😉 (yes, we had to translate it).

And last, but not least, if you are a german speaker you might be interested in this OpenNebula webinar, offered by our partners at NETWAYS this 5th of September at 14:00 CEST.

Outreach

We want to remind you about the First OpenNebula Conference. The Conference, based in Berlin between the 24 and 26 of september, will serve as a meeting point for OpenNebula cloud users, developers, administrators, builders, integrators and researchers and an unique opportunity for discussion and collaboration with other projects.

The first OpenNebula Conference will deliver its educational content through 6 keynotes, 2 tracks with 18 regular talks, 1 hands-on tutorial and 3 community sessions (see this page for more details).

This first conference is the perfect place to learn about Cloud Computing, or to learn how industry leaders of different sectors are using OpenNebula in their datacenters. The list of high quality keynote speakers includes Daniel Concepción (Produban – Bank Santander Group), Thomas Higdon (Akamai), Steven Timm (FermiLab), André von Deetzen (Deutsche Post E-Post), Jordi Farrés (European Space Agency,) Karanbir Singh (CentOS Project), and Rubén S. Montero (OpenNebula Project).

The final speaker line-up, as well as the agenda are already closed. But there is a chance left still to contribute to the conference, as there are still a couple of spots left for lightning talks: 5 minute presentations focusing on one key point (a new project, product, feature, integration, experience, etc). This session is an opportunity for ideas to get the attention they deserve. Register today and do not miss out this opportunity!

The conference is a must attend for every person who wants to:

  • Build, configure and operate a private cloud
  • Hear cloud experts from leading companies
  • Gather actionable and thought-provoking ideas from real hands-on experiences, industry case studies and deployment experiences
  • Gain practical insight and knowledge from organizations building and running production cloud infrastructures
  • Network with peers and discuss about latest cloud technology updates and features

Sponsorship opportunities are still available, and you can check the conference page for full details about registration.
