OpenNebula Session at GigaOM Structure Europe

Here is the recording of the OpenNebula session at GigaOM Structure Europe where we talked about the “secret recipe” that allows us to compete with other open-source projects backed by strong IT vendors. Mainly the focus of OpenNebula on user needs, its wide integration capabilities, its unique features for private clouds, and its support for production environments.

OpenNebula to Speak at GigaOM Structure:Europe

OpenNebula will speak at GigaOM Structure:Europe next week in Amsterdam. We will participate in a session about “The Transformative Potential of Cloud Computing in Europe” where we will talk about the “secret recipe” that allows us to compete with other open-source projects backed by strong IT vendors and be part of the list of 7 reasons why Europe matters to cloud computing.

See you in Amsterdam!

OpenNebula Participation in Upcoming Cloud Events (Autumn 2012)

During the autumn, OpenNebula is speaking in several upcoming events in cloud computing:

Would be great to meet you at these venues. If you want to connect, please send an email to contact@opennebula.org

OpenNebula at CloudOpen 2012

Yesterday we gave a presentation at CloudOpen, an event co-located with LinuxCon in San Diego, US. After a demo of the different web and cloud interfaces that OpenNebula offers, we talked about the advanced features that allow the creation of complex scenarios, and about OpenNebula’s unique capabilities to be customized to the cloud provider’s specific needs.

It was great to finally meet in person some users and contributors from our community. Thanks to the Linux Foundation for this great event.

OpenNebula at FrOSCon 2012

OpenNebula participated last 25th of August in the 7th edition of FrOSCon, the Free and Open Source Software Conference which took place in the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, Germany.

We had the chance to introduce the OpenNebula architecture and building blocks, and its newest features (like Marketplace, oZones…) to an enthusiastic audience, which showed interest in the good VMware support and the EC2 integration among other topics.

You can find the slides of the presentation below. The video recording from the session will be added as soon as it is available. It was great to participate in FrOSCon for the first time and we hope to come back on future occasions to such an awesome conference.

OpenNebula Participation in Upcoming Cloud Events (Summer 2012)

During the summer, OpenNebula is participating in several upcoming events in cloud computing:

OpenNebula Training in SCI-BUS, SHIWA, EDGI Joint Summer School

SCI-BUS, SHIWA, EDGI JOINT SUMMER SCHOOL ON WORKFLOWS AND GATEWAYS FOR GRIDS AND CLOUDS

SCI-BUS, SHIWA, EDGI JOINT SUMMER SCHOOL ON WORKFLOWS AND GATEWAYS FOR GRIDS AND CLOUDS

2-6 JULY 2012, BUDAPEST, HUNGARY

There are already several well established grid and cloud infrastructures in Europe. The next issue is how to exploit these infrastructures, how to port and develop applications for these infrastructures and how to extend their user communities. The main goal of this summer school is to give answers for these questions and to promote best practice examples for potential application developers and users of e-science infrastructures. The summer school is co-organised by three current European Union projects, SCI-BUS, SHIWA and EDGI, to show various aspects of cloud and grid computing.

A whole day is devoted to cloud computing where students are trained on how to build and use cloud systems. This day is based on OpenNebula technology because of its widespread European use. In the morning, cloud systems in general, and OpenNebula will be introduced to the attendees. In the afternoon, during a hands-on session they will have a chance to use a cloud system, based on the latest release of OpenNebula.

We recommend the summer school for PhD students and technical staff members who are interested in learning the grid middleware, desktop grid and cloud technologies and also staff members of companies who would like to establish company level DCI (based on clouds, grids or desktop grids) and utilize this DCI or other commercial clouds via a high-level gateway service.

Registration deadline is 28th June, 2012.

Upcoming Public Webinar about OpenNebula

C12G Labs has recently started a series of Webinars focused on different aspects and possible deployments achieved by OpenNebula. Most of these Webinars are by invitation only, but C12G will also offer Webinars open to the general public, the first one will be taking place next Thursday, 7th of June. More information about the Webinars.

OpenNebula at the RootCamp Berlin

Last Saturday I had the chance to introduce OpenNebula at the RootCamp Berlin. RootCamp Berlin is a bar-camp in which several participants meet and agree to hold presentations on several topics of their choice. This was the first edition of the RootCamp, and it ran under the wing of the LinuxTag 2012, the leading open-source event in Europe, in which we also held an OpenNebula presentation.

Image from the rootcamp session

My choice for the hour-session was to set up a basic OpenNebula install from scratch. I used a netbook as frontend and node, and Sunstone and SelfService interfaces to perform the necessary operations.

Participants of the session were able to see how to add a physical KVM host, how to upload a basic ttylinux image and how to create a Virtual Machine attached to a Virtual Network. Everything worked perfectly and we were able to SSH into the virtual machine and also to connect via VNC in Sunstone. In the meantime, I detailed and answered questions about the different possibilities OpenNebula offers regarding hypervisors, storage back-ends, network isolation modes or authentication possibilities.

I finished the session setting up OpenNebula oZones, listing resources from several zones and showing how to isolate a set of resources automatically by creating a Virtual Data Center.

Many thanks to all the participants of the session for their interest and to Netways for organizing the event and inviting me to join.

OpenNebula at LinuxTag Berlin 2012

Last wednesday OpenNebula participated the the LinuxTag conference, which is currently being held in Berlin, Germany. LinuxTag is one of the leading open source conferences in Europe and we had the chance to introduce OpenNebula to the public, explaining most of its features for cloud providers, integrators, and cloud consumers. Additionally we had a look to the current state of the project and the upcoming features.

It was a great experience to participate in this edition of LinuxTag!
